buttechno
Buttechno is a Berlin-based music producer and one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary underground electronic music.
Buttechno's sonic identity is built on spacious, dystopian, and wonky reflections on techno that explore the liminal spaces between rhythm and texture. His productions feature rhythmic cells ranging from strict to rubbery that lend direction to blue, ruminating, and post-apocalyptic voids—creating soundscapes that mirror expansive barrenness and urban desolation. This approach has earned him recognition for providing "spastic electronics and fireball ballistics" at major festivals including Dekmantel, Nextones, and Berlin Atonal, as well as legendary clubs such as Berghain and Tresor.
The artist maintains close ties to design and fashion scenes, with his own artwork fleshing out a singular aesthetic that complements his musical vision. His notable fashion collaborations include working with major fashion houses like SlamJam and Comme des Garçons, creating soundtracks for European runway shows—work that became the foundation for his debut album SPORT—a collection that followed a pair of acclaimed 12" singles and established his reputation for deconstructing techno's fundamental elements while rebuilding them with his own atmospheric sensibility.
With releases on Incienso, The Trilogy Tapes, Kalahari Oyster Cult, and Cititrax, his live performances and DJ sets continue to push the boundaries of contemporary techno, offering audiences immersive experiences that blur the lines between destruction and reconstruction, emptiness and fullness, the mechanical and the deeply human.
